Flat steel boning is used for corsets and crinolines where a sturdy support is needed. Steel boning can flex forwards and backwards, but not sideways. The thickness of the steel is almost more important than the width, the thicker the more sturdy. This width and thickness, 6.5mm x 0.4mm, is best suited for corsets as it is too weak for crinolines.
For corsetery, the ends need to be cut and filed down and then covered by metal end caps or tape, se art. Cap7. Garments with steel boning can be hand washed.
Can be purchased per meter or pack of 25m.
